Atelier Narce

The jewelry in the Atelier Narcé collection has been hand-crafted based on impressions of ancient Near Eastern seals and in XVlll-XlX renderings of pieces of art of the classical antiquity. Designer Iohann Pita draws inspiration from the pieces of art they depict themselves or from great works of literature. Iohann's designs convey the mystery, the puzzle and the wonder of our personal memories - remembered or forgotten - still sleeping somewhere inside of us. Atelier Narcé’s jewelry is modern and wearable, yet transcends time and civilization.

The inspiration for this perfectly simple design comes from German mystic, poet, and priest Angelus Silesius, born Johann Scheffler in 1684. He was also known as the Prophet of the Ineffable. The following verse inspired the creation of the Nada ring:

    God is an utter Nothingness,
Beyond the touch of Time and Place:
The more thou graspest after Him,
The more he fleeth thy embrace.

Negative theology, known in Latin as Via Negationis, attempts to approach God by negation. The divine is spoken of in terms of what may not be said about the perfect goodness that is God. The apophatic tradition is often allied with the approach of mysticism which sees the perception of the divine reality as beyond ordinary perception.

Sybil's Feast Necklace with Blue Sapphires in 10K Gold

Sybil was a prophetess whose oracles foretold the future. This necklace is based on the Cumaean Sybil. There are many famous paintings of Cumaean Sybil including by Michaelangelo in the Sistine chapel but this meticulously hand-carved gold rendering is most inspired by Domenicho Zampieri's 1622 oil painting.

As recounted in Virgil's Aneid, the Cumaean Sibyl prophesied by “singing the fates” and writing on oak leaves. These would be arranged inside the entrance of her cave, but if the wind blew and scattered them, she would not help to reassemble the leaves and recreate the original prophecy. Cumaean Sybil is known to act as a bridge between the worlds of the living and the dead.

Pollux Necklace with Blue Sapphire in 14K Gold

As legend goes, when Pollux's twin brother Castor was killed, Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality with his twin to keep them together. Thus they were transformed into the constellation Gemini. The pair were regarded as the patrons of sailors, to whom they appeared in St. Elmo's fire, which is a bright blue or violet glow, appearing like fire in some circumstances, from tall, sharply pointed structures such as ship masts, spires, and lightning rods.
