Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and the current "NY on Pause" orders, our Gem Bar and stores are currently closed to the public. (Online orders continue to ship as usual.) We will begin to book Gem Bar appointments just as soon as it is deemed safe and legal to resume our normal operations. Until then, please stay home, stay safe, and be well. Thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is the Gem Bar?
The Gem Bar is a place to share a fun and memorable experience with friends, family, or co-workers. It's a place to explore your creativity and experience the joy of creating something unique by hand. There is so much greater meaning in giving or receiving a gift that has been lovingly handcrafted rather than factory made or mass produced.
2. Do you have a Gem Bar at both store locations?
Why, yes we do! You can create beautiful gemstone jewelry at the Gem Bar at our Flagship Store in Clayton in the 1000 Islands as well as at our new NYC satellite store in Manhattan's East Village.
3. How long does it take to complete a project?
Projects generally take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours to complete, depending on your personal jewelry making pace and the complexity of the design. A beaded necklace, for example, takes quite a bit longer to make than a beaded bracelet simply because the necklace is about three times the length of a bracelet.
4. Do I need to make an appointment or do you take walk-ins?
We try our best to accommodate walk-ins but if we happen to be busy there may be a short wait or if it’s really busy we may ask you to come back later. We encourage appointments for parties of four or more. We are happy to schedule evening Gem Bar sessions after regular store hours if you’d like to make a private appointment with a group of friends. If there is a specific Gem Bar project you’d like to try, you can let us know your desired project and gemstone choice ahead of time and we’ll prep your materials. Otherwise you can choose your project from the Gem Bar menu when you arrive for your appointment.
5. Do you keep all the gemstone varieties in stock?
We strive to keep all gemstone varieties in stock but sometimes certain ones are on backorder. That said, we always have a variety of gemstones to choose from at different price points. Sometimes we offer gemstone specials meaning you can complete your project using rare gemstones that we are not able to restock.
6. How much does it cost?
Projects start around $75 with the majority priced under $100. Some projects that incorporate more materials are priced around $200. Some projects that incorporate rare or higher quality gemstones can be closer to $300. Basically, the project price depends on the gemstone type and quality and how many gemstones are incorporated into the finished piece. We offer a variety of price points for each style. The price to create your own gemstone jewelry by hand at our gem bar is always less than the retail price for that same item.
7. What kinds of jewelry can I make at the Gem Bar? Can I see examples of Gem Bar projects?
Generally speaking, you can make any piece that uses a simple stringing technique where you string drilled gemstone beads onto a special type of beading wire. This is an accessible and enjoyable technique that does not require any previous jewelry making experience.
The projects offered at the Gem Bar include some of our most popular gemstone earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. You can choose to add a nautical charm or gemstone pendant to most necklaces for an additional cost. Below are some links to some of the pieces you can create at the Gem Bar. We are continually adding more projects.
Please note that the links below are to the products at RETAIL PRICES. If you create any of these items at the Gem Bar the project price will be at least $15 less than the retail price. You'll pay for your Gem Bar project in person at the time of your appointment, not through our website.Tiny Beaded Gemstone Bracelet
8. How do I pay for my Gem Bar project?
You may select and pay for your Gem Bar project at your appointment. We accept cash, credit cards, and Golden Cleat gift cards. All Gem Bar projects are final sale. Please do not pre-purchase jewelry online to make at the Gem Bar as the Gem Bar pricing is less than retail pricing. If you have your mind set on a project using a particular gemstone, contact us ahead of time and we will reserve your materials for you.
9. Can kids create jewelry at the Gem Bar? What's the minimum age requirement?
Creating a piece of jewelry at the Gem Bar is a wonderful experience for an adult to share with a child and we don't have a specific minimum age requirement. We recommend one child per adult unless the children are at an age where they can complete their project independently, usually around age 10 or 12. Adults may need to co-create a piece of jewelry with a younger child.
10. How do I make a Gem Bar appointment?
Just call us at 917-544-9455 and we'll find a convenient time to accommodate your party. We can answer any questions you may have and tailor the Gem Bar experience to your party's needs.
11. What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise and that your availability may change. We appreciate you giving us as much lead time as possible in the event you need to cancel or reschedule. We politely request at least 48 hours notice to change or cancel your appointment.
