Emily Amey Jewelry
New York based jeweler Emily Amey has always possessed an independent spirit. Growing up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, she always dreamed of bigger things. In her early 20's, she moved to NYC and immersed herself in the downtown culture teaming with artists and independent designers. She knew she needed to find her own artistic voice and began to study metal smithing at FIT.
An obsessive traveler, collector, gardener and interior designer, Emily's many passions influence her design sensibility. She loves bold rich juicy colors and has traveled the globe with a keen eye for selecting the most vibrant gemstones. From the souks of Marrakech, to the bazaar of Istanbul, and the gem shows of Tucson and Hong Kong, Emily has met with hundreds of small operation miners and gem cutters. She takes great pleasure in forming friendships, learning about different cultures, and knowing first hand where each of these unique treasures originates.
Emily loves anything that is distinctly handmade, organic and one of a kind. She works intuitively, letting the stone speak to her. She sculpts organic forms out of soft wax to create ring bands that are idiosyncratic and eloquent. Being good to the planet is important to her, and she uses recycled fine materials and ethically sourced gemstones whenever possible. The entire jewelry-making process, from design to full-scale production, is completed domestically with the majority of it done in-house at Emily's New York studio.
